Why a locker needs levels
A locker is tall and narrow. Without a shelf, everything you own ends up in one pile at the bottom.
Measure once
Our tension shelves fit openings from 12 to 15 inches. One tape measure reading tells you which shelf you need.
No tools, no marks
Shelves press in or unfold. Door pieces hold by magnet. Nothing is drilled, glued or left behind in June.
Built for slammed doors
Locking knobs, rubber stops and magnets that hold are there because a locker door never closes gently.
Home again in a backpack
Wire shelves fold flat and Flexi boxes collapse, so clearing the locker takes one trip.
LockerMate buying guide: how to fit out a school locker
Most locker mistakes are measuring mistakes. Read this once with a tape measure in your hand and the rest of the list takes care of itself.
How do I measure a school locker?
Open the door and measure the inside width from wall to wall, then the height from floor to top shelf. Most school lockers are 12 inches wide and some are 15. Our Adjust-A-Shelf covers that whole range, so the number you need most is the height you want to leave for books underneath.
Tension shelf or freestanding shelf?
A tension shelf presses between the two side walls and can sit at any height. A freestanding Stac-A-Shelf stands on four legs, 12 inches tall, and needs no walls at all. Choose tension when you want to pick the height; choose freestanding when the locker is wider than 15 inches or the walls are uneven.
How much weight will a locker shelf hold?
Our Adjust-A-Shelf rated for it holds up to 10 lbs, which is a full load of textbooks. Put the heaviest books on the locker floor or the shelf itself, and keep lunch and light things up top.
What sticks to a locker door?
Steel doors take magnets. Every door piece in our locker kits and accessories is magnetic: mirror, dry erase board, storage cup, pencil holder, vanity and neon lights. Nothing needs tape, and nothing is left on the door afterward.
Is a kit better than buying pieces?
A kit is quicker and the pieces match. The 6-piece kits cover the door. The 7-piece kits and Adjust-A-Shelf sets add a shelf, and the 10-piece adds a push light and corkboard. Buy single pieces when you already own a shelf or only want one thing.
What goes inside once the shelf is up?
Small supplies travel better in a box. A hard pencil case protects pencils under heavy books, and a Flexi box collapses when it is empty, which saves space on days with a light load.
| Gear | How it stays put | What to check first | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Adjust-A-Shelf | Presses between the side walls | Width: 12 to 15 inches | Choosing your own shelf height |
| Adjust-A-Shelf with drawer | Tension, plus pull-out drawer | Width, and room for the drawer to open | Pens, chargers and passes |
| Double shelf | Adjusts in width and height | Inside height of the locker | Two extra levels at once |
| Stac-A-Shelf | Stands on four legs | 12 inches of clear height | Wide or uneven lockers |
| Locker kit | Shelf inside, magnets on the door | Steel door for the magnets | Setting up everything in one go |
Before you order: a five-line checklist
- Inside width written down, in inches.
- Inside height written down, so you know how many levels fit.
- Door is steel, so magnets will hold.
- Heaviest books counted: over 10 lbs goes on the floor.
- School rules read: some schools ask for no adhesives, which magnets and tension shelves respect.
Ten minutes with a tape measure in August saves a year of things falling out when the door opens.

Notes passed back to us
Word for word, from people who set one up.
Easy to install
Works amazingly. Easy to install and holds a decent amount of my junk in my locker. Definitely recommend.
Worth it!
Fits perfectly in my locker and is extremely durable! It’s a little shaky but non the less keeps my locker organized. It’s very easy to bring to school incase you don’t wanna carry around a big bag, embarrassed. Just fold the legs and slip it in your back pack! Awesome overall
Love the kit
Perfect fit for a middle school half locker. The shelf was easy to set up and is stable under the weight of school books. The pink color is a pretty light pink. The magnets actually stick/hold strong, and the flowers were dainty. The light is really not necessary but my 11 year old feels cool with it in her locker!
Sturdy
Worked perfect for my daughter's locker. Heavy metal, so pretty sturdy, the magnet could be a little stronger we added a couple, so when she slammed her lover don't it didn't go flying. Fits all her trinkets perfectly.
Sturdy pencil box for young learners
It is hard to find a nice sturdy pencil box for young learners. This is the second one I have purchased for my son and will continue to use these in the future. Easy to open and close, rubber makes it durable and prevents cracks if dropped. Holds up all school year. Highly recommend
Great for art supplies!
Nice boxes for storage. I use them for art supplies. They feel good quality, and the clasps work well. The colors are fun!
Study hall
Short reads for the week before school starts.

Hands up
The questions we hear every August.
What size locker does the LockerMate Adjust-A-Shelf fit?
It extends to fit standard lockers from 12 to 15 inches wide and can be positioned at any height.
Do LockerMate shelves need tools or assembly?
No. Tension shelves press into place by hand and Stac-A-Shelf wire shelves simply unfold. No tools or hardware are needed.
How much weight can a locker shelf hold?
The Adjust-A-Shelf that lists a capacity holds up to 10 lbs, enough for a full load of textbooks.
Will the magnetic accessories damage a locker?
They hold by magnet only, so there is no adhesive or drilling and they lift off cleanly.
Can I stack more than one Stac-A-Shelf?
Yes. Each shelf is 12 inches tall and they are made to stack on top of each other when the locker height allows.
What comes in a LockerMate locker kit?
Depending on the kit: a shelf, a magnetic mirror, a dry erase board with marker, a storage cup and magnets. The 10-piece kit adds a push light and a corkboard with pushpins.
The bell is about to ring
Measure the locker, pick the shelf, and let the first day be about finding your classes instead of finding your books.
